The Irish Fencing Federation
The Irish Fencing Federation (IFF) is the governing body of the sport of fencing in Ireland. It
is recognised as such by the Federation d'Escrime
Internationale (F.I.E.), the governing body of the sport worldwide, of which it is a member, and
by the Irish Sports Council and the
Olympic Council of Ireland.
It is also affiliated to the European
Fencing Confederation (C.E.E.), and to the European
Veterans Fencing Committee (EVFC) through its sub-committee, the Irish Veterans Fencing Committee (IVFC). The IFF
was established formally in 1936 as the Irish Amateur Fencing Federation (IAFF), and changed to its present name
in 2008.
The IFF is structured as a company with articles of association and a constitution. Its activities are managed by a committee
elected by members at an Annual General Meeting. Sub-committees deal with selection for international competitions and for veterans
fencing.

Chairman
Our chairman, Tom Rafter, has been involved in fencing
since his schooldays in St. Conleth's, having represented Ireland
at international level on many occasions. Along with his role as
Chairman, Tom is one of the IAFF selectors. He is also a member
of the Olympic Council of Ireland and is Assistant Chef de Mission
for the Beijing Games.

Honorary Secretary
Nuala McGarrity our Honorary Secretary, has been
a driving force in Irish fencing for many years. She is also a member
of the Selection Committee, and the Executive Committee of the European
Fencing Confederation.
