Irish Fencing Federation Selection Guidelines

The standards listed below are to be seen, primarily, as guidelines. Fencers who achieve the stated criteria will be automatically selected unless there are more fencers who reach that level than can be sent to an event. In exceptional circumstances, fencers who have not achieved the stated results may still be selected on the discretion of the selectors; in doing so the selectors will consider, but will not be limited to, the following factors:

  • Results and performances in previous seasons.

  • Future potential

  • Physical fitness

Selection Procedure:

It is up to the individual fencer to apply to the IFF if they wish to compete in an international individual competition. At the beginning of the season a fencer who aspires to international competition should provide to Selectors (via email to )

  • Long-term goal

  • Medium-term goal

  • Name of Coach

  • Training programme

  • Fitness programme

  • Competition programme (domestic, UK and Europe)
